Oshiete! Gyaruko-chan, or Please Tell Me! Galko-chan, focuses on three young girls: Galko, Ojyo and Otako. It’s a slice-of-life comedy, with an unlikely friendship between the main characters. There isn’t much of a specific plotline beyond classroom gossip, but in each episode, they talk about the high school rumours going around the class and try to figure out whether they’re true or not.
Any anime that mentions pubic hair in the first five minutes is going to be very low-brow, so I think the key to enjoying this series is to not set your standards too high. But one of its appeals is the refreshing honesty; not holding back from topics of conversation and not caring if it would be considered indecent. Rather than saying that they can’t discuss certain things because they’re girls, it’s a nice change to see them be so open while talking about taboo subjects like nipple size. However, Oshiete! Galko-chan seems to push things to the limit, and may be considered a bit too inappropriate at times. Also, the girls seem to be walking character archetypes, so that may get old very quickly.
